    Hallo!

Excuse my poor German and thank you in advance to anyone who can give me insight.

I am looking to get into the Kiel Klinik for inpatient care as I have exhausted my current neurologist and hospital’s capabilities here in the United States. A few questions:
    – Are there any others in this forum who have traveled to Kiel from abroad?
    – What is it like getting the process started?
    – Is the wait to get into the clinic long?

I have researched extensively on the website and I meet all of the requirements for the inpatient program. As a foreigner, I will be paying out of pocket. My current migraine has not broken since Jan 1 and I’ve had several new neurological symptoms arise in the past nine months. I’m looking into places in the U.S. as well but I would prefer Kiel.

I’m getting a spinal tap this Friday so I am well ahead on all the testing. I just started botox a month ago but I have failed several CGRPs and other various preventatives like topomax/toparmiate.

Welcome to the Headbook, dear Amina Akhtar.

You could talk to your insurance company in the USA, to see, if they will reimburse or at least subsidize your stay.
Many people come from abroad to the pain clinic in Kiel and sometimes the costs are covered. So just ask and make it clear, that there is probably no comparable clinic in the USA. This alone can theoretically be a good argument for the assumption of costs.

You can ask your doctor to write a letter of recommendation, download the documents for the inpatient stay from the homepage, fill them out and send them to the clinic in Kiel.

The medical team at the clinic will then use your information to assess, whether they can help you at the clinic. If so, an admission date will be discussed with you.

As a (possibly) self-payer, the waiting time will not be so long.

    Kind regards
    Bettina
